Contributions to innovation
From 2001 to 2003, 57% of particularly innovative compounds sold outside hospitals in France were developed by AGIPHARM member companies.
Internal research expenditures
422 million euro in 2003, up 0.03% from 2002 for a total of 1,303 researchers. A number of contracts have been signed with research centers (INSERM, CNRS, ANRS, universities, etc.) in a variety of fields including gene therapy, neurology, cancer research, cardiology, HIV, atherosclerosis, and hypertension.
Among the drugs that received ASMR (Medical benefit improvement) class I approval in 2003, 56% were developed by AGIPHARM. The rate is 71% for ASMR II and 63% for ASMR III1.
From 2000 to 2004, approximately one-third of all drugs sold in France by AGIPHARM member companies are the result of biotechnological research. By 2007, the percentage of biodrugs entering the market is expected to outpace the number of drugs developed through advanced chemical research.
